1. Discuss with relevant examples how the processes of making laws and reacting to the breaking of laws
contribute to the production of criminals and crimes in Canada? [300 words]
2. In Canada, crime is socially and relatively defined. Explain with clear example(s)? [200 words]
3. Canada’s officially reported crime rate often does not reflect community crime experience. Justify the
above statement with examples. [200 words]
4. Michelle lived with Tucker for 15 years, during which he had, on various occasions, subjected her to
physical assaults, some of which inflicted severe injuries (such as extensive bruising to the body and a
broken jaw). One night, Michelle returned home late from an evening meeting, and Tucker became
furious with her. He yelled at her, “I am going to fix you once and for all.” However, Tucker was so drunk
that he fell on the couch, struggled to get up, and eventually passed out. Michelle went to the kitchen
and picked up a sharp knife. She then returned to the room where Tucker was sleeping and stabbed
him to death. Would Michelle be able to raise a successful plea of defence if she were charged with
murder or manslaughter? What would be Michelle’s argument of defence? What likely argument would
the prosecutor put forward to make a successful defence difficult for Michelle? [200 words]

Policy Options Video Presentation – 15%: The research for
this video presentation will prepare you to write the second half of the policy brief. You will research and
provide an informative overview of your selected policy issues addressing the following questions:
Current Models in Other Jurisdictions: What are other jurisdictions doing? How amenable are those
policies to transfer? Has similar policy transfer already occurred, and was it successful or were there
challenges?
Alternative Policy Options – Given the above, provide three plausible options to modify, improve upon or
replace the current policy. Thoroughly examine each policy option in detail, explaining their method or
form, their potential cost, the advantages and disadvantages, possible implications or unintended
consequences, and how they compare and differ from the current policy.
Recommendation – Which policy alternative do you recommend and why that alternative instead of the
others?
At the beginning of your presentation, please briefly introduce yourself and summarize/recap your policy
issue. Focus on demonstrating your knowledge of the current models in other jurisdictions, present three
plausible alternative policy options (with detailed explanation as noted above), and clearly communicate
your selected recommendation. Your video presentation should be fifteen minutes in length and you
MUST include with your video submission a reference page in APA format with at least SIX sources in

The WALL between the United States and Mexico – a critical analysis of the numbe

The WALL between the United States and Mexico – a critical analysis of the number of migrants, representing an unprecedented number of nationalities, coming across the southern border. Take a position on whether you believe the construction of a wall would solve, or possibly alleviate, the problems occurring and justify your position. Discuss the myriad of issues involved, to include, limited law enforcement resources, the pandemic, extensive criminal activities such as drug trafficking, human trafficking, etc.
Please note that this is not to be a “book report”. As graduate students, I expect to see thoughtful analysis and a demonstration of critical thinking skills in your research paper.
The student will become a subject matter expert exploring the history, culture, criminal activity, Modus Operandi, and organization of the terrorist organization. This project is graded according to whether instructions are followed, all parts are included, content is accurate, and the presentation (grammar, spelling, organization) is correct.

This assignment will be submitted to Turnitin
Instructions
Note: All quotes must be encapsulated in quotation marks. Likewise, all papers must be 100% original work to this class. The discovery of past work being used will be treated as cheating, and as is the case for plagiarism, will as a minimum will result in a 0 for the paper. Also the rubric aside, papers that fall short of minimum length will have a max point award related to the % of the paper they actually submit. For example the max possible for a paper that is 50% short of the minimum length will be 50%.
Your final paper must be on the following topic:
Opinion Paper on the Legalization of Recreational Marijuana
The topic should be fully developed and include at least ten peer-reviewed articles. Do not use anything from Wikipedia
Instructions: The paper will include a minimum of 15 pages of content excluding the cover page, abstract, table of contents, any and all quotes, images, charts, pictures, and reference section. Again, please know that any and all quotes do not count toward the minimum # of pages
the “most recent edition of the APA manual” must be followed with the formulation of the paper. Double spaced, Times New Roman, 12 pitch, with 1″ margins all around. The use of larger fonts, more than just double spacing, or larger than 1″ margins will result in significant penalties
The paper is to be written in an academic tone. You are not to write in the first person. Instead, you need to use the third person. Remember, an academic paper is not to be written like you are having a casual conversation with your friends. Do not include slang or foul language unless you are quoting someone.
Large word-for-word quotes are not permitted for the final project. Try to limit direct quotes and paraphrase instead. The paper needs to include an examination of current research on the particular problem you choose to examine and it needs to include the student’s careful and informed analysis of the issue.
Remember that the paper needs to be submitted as a Word Doc attachment. Additionally, the paper needs to be written using the template provided by me and attached here.
