Write the assignment below, using the AIDA model and other guidelines presented in this module and Chapter 9. Apply what you’ve learned in this module.
SCENARIO
In the last year you have taken measures to reduce your personal environmental footprint to help reduce the impacts of climate change and increase the planet’s sustainability. This took some reflection, and you’ve had to change some of your habits, but after several months you are feeling quite used to the changes. For example, you avoid using plastic and buying items with synthetic fabrics. Heck, you even recycle more! And instead of throwing out things when they don’t work as well, tear or get broken, you figure out a way to repair them. You’ve even started walking and cycling instead of using your car for short trips. Now, you’re wondering if the company you work for can do more by way of ethical and sustainable practices.
Recently, you also saw a short video clip about a “Pay What You Feel” model of buying food, which highlights the Rescued Food Market in Vancouver. (Read the FAQs at the bottom of the website page.) The model helps reduce food waste while increasing people’s access to food. Learning about the program and its benefits gave you an idea and you’d like the company where you work to give something similar a try. Most of the employees that work at the organization buy their meals and snacks from the company’s cafeteria downstairs. The food is really good but there are many products left over at the end of each day. And from what you can tell, it just gets thrown out. You know now that this is a huge waste. Obviously, this isn’t good for anyone, or the planet. My goodness, anyone can see from the news that all over the Lower Mainland there are growing numbers of people who struggle to afford quality food and housing. It got you thinking and you wonder if there is a better way to deal with the leftover food in the company cafeteria. Maybe it could be donated to the Rescued Food Market.
You think some of your co-workers would most likely work as a team with you to start a program like this. All the team would need is a few resources to put together a plan. You are sure the team could come up with a program that would work for the employees and the people running the store.
1.Click on the link to watch the short video, then click on the second link to read the article.
2.Write a persuasive email, with a full email header, to your boss to get approval for your idea.
Invent any other information you need to create an effective email message, without changing the intended meaning. When writing your message, determine what wording and information to delete from the original scenario above.
As much as possible, use your own words; don’t copy from the scenario above. Since some of the scenario isn’t written well, or is unnecessary for your message, part of your task is to determine what words to omit.
Your message will be marked for content (ideas, details), format, organization, style/tone, and mechanics, including grammar and spelling. Use revision strategies to revise your message to ensure it’s concise and cohesive. Edit to eliminate grammar and spelling errors.

KINESICS: the study of body motion or body behavior.
Emblems: gestures that have a direct verbal translation and can stand alone such as the “ok” sign.
Illustrators: gestures that complement our words such as pointing when giving directions.
Regulators: gestures that may prolong or terminate the conversation such as looking at your watch, walking away, or nodding and leaning forward.
Adaptors: gestures that make you feel more comfortable in a communication situation such as twirling your hair or tapping your fingers.
Affect Displays: facial expressions motivated by emotion such as a smile or frown.
In this lesson, you will venture out and observe the people around you. Tune out what they are saying and then sit back and watch. Take notes on what type of gestures (emblems, regulators, illustrators, adaptors, and affect displays) are they using? How often do they use each one? Are they aware of these gestures? You will then use your notes to write a typed two-page essay describing what you witnessed. Please let us know where you were, the mall, Starbucks, work, etc.. and who was involved, two men sitting at a table…
Describe at least ten separate gestures.
What type?
What are they conveying? How many repetitions?
What are the circumstances?
Please submit your essay to this dropbox and include the following:
At least two pages typed– MINIMUM of 675 words

Our textbook is no longer being published online by the Public Speaking Project.

Our textbook is no longer being published online by the Public Speaking Project. All of the chapters are in the files section in canvas (uploaded to additional material section). You might also be able to find an archived version here of the original textbook here: https://socialsci.libretexts.org/Bookshelves/Communication/Public_Speaking/Public_Speaking_(The_Public_Speaking_Project) Links to an external site.
These responses are designed to help you work through the class material in order to be ready to participate in class discussions. Because this class is heavily front-loaded, you will want to read strategically (there are multiple chapters in most of the Discussion prep assignments).
How/when/what to submit:
You’ll need to read the assigned reading (read strategically – focusing on the things that are new to you and/or that you think apply to you personally as a speaker) and post your thoughts to canvas no later than the deadline listed in canvas.
What to write about:
These responses are open-ended so you can write about whatever you want or need to, but earnest effort to produce an academic examination of the text or material is expected. For example, your discussion prep could detail your reaction to the text, address some problematic or puzzling aspect of the text, discuss an aspect of the reading that you found particularly interesting, and/or simply relate the reading to previous information or experiences you have encountered. If, after the reading, you were left with more questions than answers, then discuss those – maybe try searching out additional information from other texts or online.
At a minimum, your response should identify what you read in the text (and where you found it in the text), show that you understood it (or are able to ask educated questions about it), and show that you can apply this new knowledge to a public speaking situation (for example, “in high school I gave a speech and ____ happened” or “I can see this applying to speeches I might have to give in the workplace because _____” or any other way you can connect what you read to “the real world”)..
You do not necessarily need to summarize the work for us (or provide unnecessary definitions), but if it helps your response, then include them. Even if we read the same thing you did, we don’t know your take on it. So, one of your chief responsibilities is to explain your thinking to us clearly, concisely, and convincingly (i.e. use examples, be as brief as possible without compromising the integrity of your thoughts, and use quotes/examples from the reading(s) to strengthen or clarify your position).
Response length & grading:
These are submitted as discussion posts so you might want to write and save them in a word processing program like MS word first and then copy-paste into Canvas to submit (that way you don’t have to worry about any technical issues).
These don’t need to be novels but they do need to be thorough. Make sure your response is 100-150 words per chapter in the assignment (so 1 well-formed paragraph per chapter). If there are multiple chapters in a reading assignment, you should address each chapter individually (you can do this by responding 2 each chapter individually in one post or make a separate post for each chapter).

What communication channel would you choose to inform him/her about your decision and why?

Learning Goal: I’m working on a communications multi-part question and need support to help me learn.
Learning Outcomes:
Communicate better, knowing that good communicators make better managers and that communication is a dynamic process basic to individuals and organizational life.
Perform all communication abilities, including thinking, writing, speaking, listening, and assessing the technology.
Analyze effective business letters, memorandums, and case studies.

Assignment Question(s):
Part1: Writing Exercise
1. In the role of a senior decision-maker in your business, write an announcement for your employees on one of the following subjects:
a. On-site smoking
b. Changes in working hours
c. Overtime
d. Or early retirement.
2. Write a bad-news message to your customer informing him/her that their claim was rejected.
3. Consider firing one of your employees. What communication channel would you choose to inform him/her about your decision and why?
Part 2: Critical Thinking
Here is a portion of an online forum about a company’s performance review system:
(1) Jackson: Our current performance review system really isn’t working well. Can you all share your major concerns with the current annual system and share what you view as the benefits of a quarterly review system?
(2) Cynthia: It really doesn’t matter what we think about the review system. Management won’t listen to us anyway.
(3) Erin: Do any of you know when the next team meeting is? I have it on my calendar for next Monday but that’s Labor Day. Pretty sure that’s not right.
(4) Nigel: Whether our reviews are annual, quarterly, daily, or hourly, we never get evaluated fairly, especially in our department. Wayne has his favorites.
(5) Vilma: I don’t think we should change anything. I think our human resource team is all knowing and has created a perfect system. I’m motivated to improve my behavior every single time I get my annual review back. It’s always the happiest day of the year! Of course, if we had a quarterly system, we could have four happy days per year. Food for thought.
Read the sample forum and answer the following questions:
a. What is the primary problem with section 2 of the forum?
b. What is the primary problem with section 3 of the forum?
c. What is the primary problem with section 4 of the forum?
d. What is the primary problem with section 5 of the forum?
e. How to turn this forum into an effective one?

How can organizations address change management in the workplace such that healthy stress is created?

Learning Goal: I’m working on a communications discussion question and need a sample draft to help me learn.
Main prompt: how can organizations address change management in the workplace such that healthy stress is created?
Hello all,
Workplace stressors are inevitable, especially during change, and can harm our mind, body, and productivity. Too much stress over time can have devastating effects leading to one feeling burnt out mentally and physically, hurting the employee, peers, and employers (Quinones, 2017). On the bright side, not all stress is created equal and healthy stresses like eustress can be used to positively energize and motivate a person during certain activities (Quinones, 2017).
As we have learned throughout this course, people are the most significant barrier to overcome and when an organization transforms, so needs the behaviors of everyone within the organization. Managing and supporting change can be very difficult as people can be inherently resistant to change as it does not come naturally to many. Organizations must design and implement a transparent plan by being open and honest, identifying champions and saboteurs, and maintaining continuous communication (Leflar, 2021). Champions will be cheerleaders by encouraging others to get on board and accept the changes, while saboteurs will be the most difficult to get on board and will need more structure and guidance(Leflar, 2021). To counter saboteurs positively, promote involvement through comments and feedback and recognize their achievements (Leflar,2021). Lastly, planned project achievements should be communicated and transparent, and accomplishments should be celebrated to acknowledge all the success taking place by the change (Leflar, 2021).
