Learning Goal: I’m working on a business plans question and need an explanation and answer to help me learn.
POST 1- Having identified the types of data you will need, it’s time to gather, review, and organize your data. This is a critical step in preparing to demonstrate to your Board of Directors that there is a legitimate demand for a solution to the problem you want to solve or the opportunity you want to explore.
In your post, answer the following questions:
What sources did you use to gather your data, and why did you use these?
What impact will any gaps in your data have on the validity of your analysis? How will you address this?
How should you organize your data so that important patterns, trends and anomalies are clearly visible?
Which analytical method (Descriptive, Predictive, or Prescriptive – see Davenport & Kim pp. 3-5) did you use to assess your data? Why did you choose this method over others?
POST 2— Having framed the problem/opportunity, formulated a testable hypothesis and gathered and organized key data, you are ready to continue your analysis by developing a data story that can be shared with others. To get started, download and review the “Types of Data Analysis” guide from Your readings, above.
Apply one or more of the following analytical tools to your dataset:
Correlation
Regression
Grouping and Visualization
Variance
Standard Deviation
Explain whether your analysis of the data confirmed or refuted your testable hypothesis.
Category: Business Plans
Learning Goal: I’m working on a business plans question and need guidance to help me learn.
Topic: Risk, Issue and crisis management
Research Paper: This is a graduate course and students will be expected to research and write papers summarizing in their own words what they have found on current topics from the weekly readings. Research is a theoretical review of relevant literature and application of findings in the literature to a topic related to a specific industry, field, or business problem.
The research must be conducted using peer-reviewed trade or academic journals. While Blogs, Wikipedia, encyclopedias, course textbooks, popular magazines, newspaper articles, online websites, etc. are helpful for providing background information, these resources are NOT suitable resources for this research assignment.
Please Note: The UC Library staff are very helpful with assisting students in using the UC Online Library journal database. Please contact them if you have issues. In addition, the instructor has provided additional resources, including a research tutorial, in the “Course Resources” folder in the “Content” area of the course.
Assignment Requirements:
Choose a research topic from the chapter readings.
Research/find a minimum at least four (4), preferably five (5) or more, different peer-reviewed articles on your topic from the University of the Cumberlands Library online business database. The article(s) must be relevant and from a peer-reviewed source. While you may use relevant articles from any time frame, current/published within the last five (5) years are preferred. Using literature that is irrelevant or unrelated to the chosen topic will result in a point reduction.
Write a four (4) to five (5) page double spaced paper in APA format discussing the findings on your specific topic in your own words. Note – paper length does not include cover page, abstract, or references page(s).
Structure your paper as follows and use APA formatted section headings for the introduction through the conclusion:APA formatted cover page
Introduction: Include an overview describing the importance of the research topic to current business and professional practice in your own words. Also include the Purpose of Research which should reflect the potential benefit of the topic to the current business and professional practice and the larger body of research.
Review of the Literature summarized in your own words. Note that this should not be a “copy and paste” of literature content, nor should this section be substantially filled with direct quotes from the article. A literature review is a summary of the major points and findings of each of the selected articles (with appropriate citations). Direct quotations should be used sparingly. Normally, this will be the largest section of your paper (this is not a requirement; just a general observation).
Practical Application of the literature. Describe how your findings from the relevant research literature can shape, inform, and improve current business and professional practice related to your chosen topic.
Conclusion in your own words.
References formatted according to APA style requirements.
Please Note: Plagiarism will not be tolerated. The paper must be written in your own words. YOU MUST INCLUDE IN-TEXT CITATIONS FOR ALL PARAPHRASED AND DIRECTLY QUOTED MATERIAL. WHEN YOU SUMMARIZE A SOURCE IN YOUR OWN WORDS, YOU ARE PARAPHRASING, AND YOU MUST INCLUDE AN IN-TEXT CITATION OF THE SOURCE IN THESE SITUATIONS, OR YOU ARE PLAGIARIZING.
Learning Goal: I’m working on a business plans report and need guidance to help me learn.

INITIAL POST 1
Identify the type of industry or sector in which you are interested in choosing a company for your Project. For example, tech, healthcare, manufacturing, hospitality, etc. Explain your choice.
Identify a focus area you would like to develop in your Project. This can be a new product or service, an operational change that would result in significant cost reductions and/or quality or margin improvements, or a major branding or marketing initiative. Why did you select this focus area? What are some of the biggest challenges or opportunities organizations in this sector are facing right now?
As you learn more about the CEO Mindset, what specific issues are you most excited about exploring in your Project?
INITIAL POST 2
Building on the sector and focus area you identified in post 1, select a specific organization for
your Project. This can be a publicly-traded company, a
private company, a governmental agency, or a non-profit. Research the organization via media searches, annual
reports, and the organization’s website. Look for a problem/opportunity that
you can analyze through data. Your problem/opportunity must fit into the
focus area identified in post 1.. This could be a new product or
service, an operational change that would result in significant cost reductions
and/or quality or margin improvements, or a major branding or marketing
initiative.
In your post:
What
is the critical problem/opportunity you will focus on? Why have you
identified this particular problem/opportunity?
What
sort of data should you gather and analyze to accurately assess the
problem or opportunity? Is it sales data, demographic data, product
performance data, or another type of data?
Explain
why this type of data is needed for this particular problem or
opportunity.
How
will you obtain the necessary data?
2.PART A – PLEASE
RESPOND TO CLASSMATE DISCUSSION WHETHER YOU AGREE OR NOT DETAILED WHY: For
my Project, I will be using the organization Crane, and in particular honing in
on the Crane Merchandizing System segment.
What is the critical problem/opportunity you will focus on? Why
have you identified this particular problem/opportunity? Crane
has a diverse portfolio and is extremely profitable. However, I believe there
is room for improvement, and I am going to focus solely on the vending machine
portion.
I
identified this opportunity because I was looking for a publicly traded vending
machine company to use for the project. Unfortunately, there are not a many and
this one came up so I started reviewing their financials and recognized that
this segment of the organization could be leaving some cash on the table.
What sort of data should you gather and analyze to accurately
assess the problem or opportunity? Is it sales data, demographic data, product
performance data, or another type of data? I
will be using product performance data along with sales data to help tell the
story of why there is an opportunity to increase the revenue.
This
will be a bit reactionary but also proactive to an extent. It is reactionary in
the sense that I will be using historical data to help other understand the
opportunity. But, it will also be proactive because it will help to accelerate
the revenue growth.
Explain why this type of data is needed for this particular
problem or opportunity.
Both the product performance data and the sales data is necessary
to understand the current performance and what areas we can make changes to in
order to increase the revenue in this department.
This analytical process will help us move from “data (making
sense) to action (making meaning).
How will you obtain the necessary data? I
plan on finding the majority of my financial data by reviewing past financial
statements and deep diving into the organization through public records and
their website. 2. PART B – PLEASE
RESPOND TO CLASSMATE DISCUSSION WHETHER YOU AGREE OR NOT DETAILED WHY: I have changed the company I mentioned in DQ1 to Nadec, a Saudi
daily, and agriculture company producing dairy products, olive oil, fruit, and
forages.
I will focus on expanding and exporting more products to other
countries and improving the logistics of the supply chain.
What is the critical problem/opportunity you will focus
on? Why have you identified this particular problem/opportunity?
The critical opportunity
is to export more olive oil to more countries. Nadec produces organic
olive oil in Saudi Arabia and distributes it to nearby countries only.
This opportunity could increase Nadec’s revenue because it can manage production
locally and export further away like Europe and Asia countries So,
targeting customers who like and use olive oil in their cooking like Asian
and Italy can lead to growth. The goal is to ship olive oil to more
countries, with considering the risk of global market competition.
What sort of data should you gather and analyze to accurately
assess the problem or opportunity? Is it sales data, demographic
data, product performance data, or another type of data?
The data that needs to be
gathered includes current olive oil sales and revenue locally and
internationally. In additional production and transportation cost,
demographic data, and the other countries’ licenses and legal issues, if
any. Production cost can help me decide to produce in SA or targeted
countries.
Explain why this type of data is needed for this particular
problem or opportunity. This data is needed to give an accurate picture of the
opportunity to present and convince leaders. Also, this data will help me
to understand the required skills needed to manage this project to have
accurate results.
How will you obtain the necessary data? I plan to obtain those data from the Nadec annual report and
financial statements. Other data will obtain from the Strayer library and
other competitive financial statements.
