Testing is not something new; it has been around for ages as we learned through our study of the history of testing and assessment in Week One. As our verse this week states, God tests us his followers to see what we truly believe.
We have all experienced testing throughout our lives, be it a spelling drill in elementary school, a driver’s license test, the SATs, or even tests throughout our educational career. In the clinical field we use testing daily when we are assessing individuals who come to us for help. Having a myriad of tests available to determine different problems and needs will allow us to pinpoint problems more clearly and then determine treatment options.
Every clinician must uphold legal and ethical standards when conducting tests, but as Christians we have two sets of standards. We have to abide by the secular licensing agency and we must follow a moral standard established by the Bible. Through our work we seek to exemplify these higher standards while upholding the laws and ethics of the governing bodies under which we operate. It is a delicate balance, but God promises that He is with us always in all that we do.
