HR003 Assessment Instructions
Review the details of your assessment including the rubric. You will have the ability to submit the assessment once you completed all of the related pre-assessments and engage with your Faculty Subject Matter Expert (SME) in a substantive way about the competency.
In this Work Product Assessment, you will investigate the practices used for retaining personnel and providing professional development in a healthcare organization of your choice. With a specific organization in mind, preferably one in which you work, have worked, or are very familiar with, you will evaluate retention strategies, identify meaningful metrics, assess organizational development needs, and explore professional development delivery options.
To complete this Assessment:
Download the Academic Writing Expectations Checklist to use as a guide when completing your Assessment. Responses that do not meet the expectations of scholarly writing will be returned without scoring. Properly formatted APA citations and references must be provided, where appropriate.
Be sure to use scholarly academic resources as specified in the rubric. This means using Walden Library databases to obtain peer reviewed articles. Additionally, .gov (government expert sources) are a quality resource option.
Note: Internet and .com sources do not meet this requirement. Contact your coach or SME for guidance on using Library Databases.

Before submitting your Assessment, carefully review the rubric. This is the same rubric the assessor will use to evaluate your submission and it provides detailed criteria describing how to achieve or master the Competency. Many students find that understanding the requirements of the Assessment and the rubric criteria help them direct their focus and use their time most productively.

Imagine the Board of Directors has asked you to prepare a Human Resources Retention and Professional Development Report that outlines how the organization will retain employees and provide them with professional development in the upcoming year. For your slide presentation, select a healthcare organization of which you are familiar. Then, select at least three different positions (e.g. nurses, radiology technicians, laboratory technicians, etc.) and summarize two to three current retention strategies for them, and how their efficacy is determined. Propose at least one new retention strategy for each position, how its effectiveness would be measured, and why it would be an effective strategy for your organization.
In addition, propose a detailed professional development plan for the next 12 months for each of the three positions. The plan describes the required and optional training and development opportunities employees would be offered including any that might be required of a health organization by state or federal regulations. Be sure to include the delivery method for each professional development opportunity (one of which should be technology based). Finally, your plan should conclude with your rationale for the training and professional development opportunities you selected and at least one strategy you would recommend to encourage employees to take advantage of the new training and professional development opportunities.
The slide presentation for your Human Resources Retention and Professional Development Report should contain the following (13 – 15 slides):
A brief description of the healthcare organization and its goals for retention.
A description of at least one specific effective retention strategy you would recommend for each of the three different positions within the organization.
An explanation of the metrics used to determine the effectiveness of these strategies.
An analysis of why the strategies have been effective for your organization.
A recommendation for at least one retention strategy for each position and how its effectiveness would be measured.
An explanation for why you believe the new strategies will enhance retention in your organization.
A professional development plan for each of the three positions you selected that covers the next 12 months detailing training and development opportunities including any that might be required of a health organization by state or federal regulations. Also be sure to include delivery methods for each professional development opportunity (one of which should be technology-based). Finally, provide a rationale for training and professional development you selected and describe at least one strategy you would recommend to encourage employees to take advantage of the new training and professional development opportunities.
This Assessment requires submission of one (1) slide presentation. Save the document as HR003_firstinitial_lastname (for example, HR003_J_Smith).
