Discuss the implications of the problem for nursing or nursing practice.

The initial discussion posting should be concise, yet comprehensive, a minimum of 250 words and should evidence a thorough review of the literature by synthesizing information, but NOT describing each source in detail. In other words learn to read a journal article and paraphrase concisely what you have learned from that journal. The initial response should be based on peer reviewed scholarly journals and textbooks, not websites such as Wikipedia, Google, etc. The initial response should provide a minimum of 1 APA formatted scholarly reference, 2 for maximizing points.
Purpose: Students will be able to discuss why research is important to nursing and the need for evidence-based practice to improve the quality of patient care.
Discussion Question Instructions: The student is expected to perform a search of the evidence-based literature and answer the following question:
Initial Discussion Question: According to Polit & Beck (2018), “evidence-based health care compels nurses to base their clinical practice, to the extent possible, on rigorous research-based findings rather than on tradition, authority, or personal experience” (p. 6).
Summarize how your professional nursing practice is based on the most up-to-date research? Give EXAMPLES of how this improves quality care.
2) Purpose; To provide the opportunity for students to practice influencing policy by analyzing a current health problem.
Instructions: There is much attention on federal health care policy and law. Health Bills: provides a list of federal bills that are currently in process in Congressional Committees.

Select a current health problem that is being debated at the national and/or state level (e.g., the proliferation of “pill mills” and pain clinics). Read through the bill and summarize in your own words answers to the following questions. (Include the bill number and name.)
1. State concisely what you understand to be the current socioeconomic, political, and ethical issues surrounding the problem.
2. Discuss the implications of the problem for nursing or nursing practice.
3. How might the bill impact your own nursing practice?
